Mobile phones "more dangerous than smoking" ?

Hello,
Instead of writing about the benefits of using a mobile phones, today we would like to tell you some of the dangers of this technology.

A study says mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos.This study was conducted by the award-winning cancer expert, Dr Vini Khurana. He notes that people should avoid using mobile phones wherever possible.

It is mentioned that using handsets for more than 10 years can double the risk of brain cancer. Cancers take at least a decade to develop.

Earlier this year, the French government warned against the use of mobile phones, especially by children.
Germany also advises to minimise the use, and the European Environment Agency asked for exposures to be reduced.

Professor Khurana is a top neurosurgeon who has received 14 awards over the past 16 years.He admits that mobiles can save lives in emergencies, but states that “there is a significant and increasing body of evidence for a link between mobile phone usage and certain brain tumours”. He believes this will be “definitively proven” in the next decade.

Noting that malignant brain tumours represent “a life-ending diagnosis”, he also says that: “We are currently experiencing a reactively unchecked and dangerous situation.” he fears that “unless the industry and governments take immediate and decisive steps”, the incidence of malignant brain tumours and associated death rate will be observed to rise globally within a decade from now, by which time it may be far too late to intervene medically.

“It is anticipated that this danger has far broader public health ramifications than asbestos and smoking,” says Professor Khurana, who told the IoS his assessment is partly based on the fact that three billion people now use the phones worldwide, three times as many as smoke. Smoking kills some five million worldwide each year, and exposure to asbestos is responsible for as many deaths in Britain as road accidents.
Late last week, the Mobile Operators Association dismissed Khurana’s study as “a selective discussion of scientific literature by one individual”. It believes he “does not present a balanced analysis” of the published science, and “reaches opposite conclusions to the WHO and more than 30 other independent expert scientific reviews”.

You guys think this is a major concern ? or will global warming be way more serious than this ?

there's no way this is true. smoking is proven to kill people and mobile phone isn't.

@invagrantly
It is said it COULD kill more people, as in it has the potential to do that, and phones are already killing people ( look at the pciture :) )

A lot of parents are paranoid about this and that's why a lot of them don't get cellphones.

Brain tumors should be a big concern for anybody that uses a mobile phone, but they aren't (in general). I have no doubt that phone use is negative for health, and in 10-20 years when brain cancer rates increase violently every year, everyone will say "omg we had no idea!!".

Anyways, great blog! Can't believe I haven't found it before... following now, though :)

that would explain why people in first world countries are so stupid.

It's definately something that needs more attention in the media. Maybe if they quit the celeb gossip they'll be able to enlighten us a little more.

I was skeptical at first but if the study yields a statistical significance, then it can be true.

You have to be using the phone 24/7 to have a risk. But who knows if in the future...

Still alive!

It is a thing of concern but i don't think it's as big of a deal si cigarettes for example. You would have to be sleeping with your phone under your pillow.

I thought it was just a myth. If it's real then wtf. Why are they even legally sold if they can cause cancer?

Classically Trained Nub said...

Sweet! I don't smoke or use cell phones anymore. I'm going to live forever.

Doesn't seem like shocking information honestly; I was kinda waiting for something like this. :/

@SpringyB

If we think about it, pretty much every thing sold can causes cancer( just look at Coke 's ingredients)

I don't smoke, so I got some extra life to get rid of. Plus, I really love my iPhone.

There is a saying: " Thousands of people quit smoking every day, by dying"

We're all dying in a year so it won't matter.
