Lawsuit: Apple v Nokia

The legal scramble is about to start, so get some more popcorn, fellow readers, all the best lawyers in the world are about to meet in the Apple-Nokia dogfight lawsuit.

In the blue corner, there are Nokia's lawyers, accusing their opponent of infringing on a range of its patent.
In the red corner, there are Apple's lawyers, actively preparing their legal team with the help of more lawyers specialized in tech patent infringement lawsuits.

To make it simpler, we'll quote Lyle Vander Schaaf, an attorney at "Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione" law firm in Washington, who works preparing cases for the commission:
“Usually you have one 800-pound gorilla going after a new entrant. Here you’ve got 800-pound gorillas fighting each other.”

Apple sits on $40 billion in cash, and we think Nokia would love some of that to compensate for its diminishing profits since the first iPhone got announced.
It seems that the tech lawyer field is certainly not affected by the financial crisis, and a lot of lawyers will walk away with fat paychecks.

Would you like to hear more about this lawsuit ?
Do you guys think this could affect us, regular consumers ?

Who is Darth Vader ?

Darth Vader says: Luke, I am your ... Samsung Galaxy S !

Continuing a Star Wars television ad campaign that it began last Summer, NTT DoCoMo is trying to bring the Samsung Galaxy S on the first place in Japanese sales charts. The carrier's Android powered Samsung Galaxy S is second (first being the iPhone 4 of course).
In the video, Darth Vader plays the role of the Samsung Galaxy S and shows the viewer some of the everyday things that can be realized with the help of Darth, arrr I mean, the Android handset.

The Apple iPhone has two-thirds of the smartphone market in Japan, it has been able to overcome the area's tradition to buy handsets from domestic manufacturers (Sharp, Panasonic).
Samsung Galaxy S faces the same challenge with its model, but also to overthrow the iPhone from its first position

It seems that the Korean company is turning on the powers of the dark side.

Do you guys think Darth Vader will be able to help the Samsung Galaxy S overcome the iPhone ? Or not even the the powers of the dark side will matter against the mighty iPhone ?

Quad speaker Nokia X7 leaks

Hi guys, in today's post, I will present a new gaming phone beauty : Nokia X7-00 is the next device to join the Symbian^3 gang. A leaked video shows handset with four speakers.

The video shows the high quality of the sound from the quad speaker.

It seems that the Nokia X7-00 processor, graphics and RAM is the same as those of Nokia N8, similar measurements and screen size, but the camera is less powerful - a fixed-focus 8 megapixel camera plus a dual-LED flash.

Anyway, the most interesting thing is still the  four speakers it's got one in each corner. We are sure lots of music geeks will get their hands on this device.

Specifications (rumoured) can be found here.

What do you guys think ? Four speakers a good idea or bad ?

Google Nexus S - curved display ?

Following its appearance of the Nexus S comes a bit of odd gossip - its display is curved. In the middle, the phone is thinner than at the top and bottom, making the whole screen concave, it's not just a chin.

Apparently, Samsung did some research and concluded that concave displays have better usability than flat displays - or at least give the impression of better usability. This technology isn't new - the rumor states that Samsung has been working on it for a while and they even got Sprint interested in it.

The Nexus S has a curved screen (we added the red line to make it easier to see)

New Verizon 4G LTE commercial

Sprint advertises its 4G phones, and T-Mobile brags about its largest 4G network in America. As we reported, Verizon recently put up signs in its stores saying that the carrier is the fastest 4G network in the U.S.Now, Big Red is taking its LTE promotion to television with a new ad discussing the lightening fast speed of 4G on Verizon.

Ironically, even though it is making claims about having the fastest 4G network, Verizon won't have any 4G equipment to sell you until LTE enabled phones become available next February.

Verizon iPhone 4 White ?

The image you’re about to set your eyes upon was leaked to Ahmed Omar of Covering Web. In the image you’ll see several things: first of all, it appears to be a white iPhone 4. No surprise. Then, it appears to show an improved iPhone 4 antenna design fixing the “Antennagate” problem. This is almost certainly going to be a feature whether this phone is real or not. Next, there is no SIM card slot (Verizon doesn’t use SIM cards.)

Then, what’s that? Oh yes, there’s a Verizon brand marking in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

Nokia N8 Drop Test

Nokia N8 gets a nasty torture, but takes it like a man.

A unibody anodized aluminum chassis and a reinforced glass over the panel make the Nokia N8 certainly look like one of the sturdiest smartphones around. And the Finnish company is keen to show just how resistant to the elements it really is.

The Nokia smartphone also had other tests, those include exposure to extreme temperatures (from around -40°C to +85°C) and humidity over 95%. The N8 was also tested in some real life scenarios like simulation of carrying the phone in your pockets plus a buttons durability check, where buttons are tested to last over 1 million clicks.

Still neither Nokia nor we would suggest you try any of these at home, unless you want your warranty voided.

Specifications can be found here.
