Google Nexus S - curved display ?

Following its appearance of the Nexus S comes a bit of odd gossip - its display is curved. In the middle, the phone is thinner than at the top and bottom, making the whole screen concave, it's not just a chin.

Apparently, Samsung did some research and concluded that concave displays have better usability than flat displays - or at least give the impression of better usability. This technology isn't new - the rumor states that Samsung has been working on it for a while and they even got Sprint interested in it.

The Nexus S has a curved screen (we added the red line to make it easier to see)

The Nexus One didn't sell very well, so Google might be expecting similar sale numbers from the Nexus S. Or will Samsung somehow solve the manufacturing problem?
Either way, we're always interested in innovation and we're interested to find out how a curved display would affect the phone.

Will it be the best thing since capacitive displays or it could just end up an oddity in touch phone design ?

Specifications (rumoured) can be found here.

What do you guys think ?

My main requirement is that a phone fits in my shirt breast pocket. Blackberry figured that out years ago but periodically forget.

With me, as long as my phone works, I don't care what kind it is....I still have a Nokia 3300 standing by incase my phone breaks lol.

the screen design seems novel, so it might receive quite a few sales from people who just want to see what the "curved screen" hubbub is all about

I honestly can't see a real difference in how curved the screen is.

Did Samsung explain why their research said that curved screens are better?

My thoughts are this will be just a gimmick feature.

It makes you wonder if the curvature has anything to do with the glare. As for it being a touch screen, I'm not sure the argument has any merit. Otherwise, the slight curve MIGHT feel more comfortable when held next to the face.
