Google Nexus S announced

The Google Nexus S is finally official, Andy Rubin, Google VP of Engineering and head of Android, announced the Google Nexus S (and Gingerbread) on the company's official blog.

Here are some important details:
  • Manufactured by Samsung;
  • Will be available on Dec 16 (in the U.S.) and Dec 20 (in the U.K.);
  • Price will be $199 (with T-Mobile contract) or $529 (unlocked);

Most rumors about the Google Nexus S are true: curved screen (which will be called "Contour Display"), the screen will use Super AMOLED technology and measure 4 inches at WVGA resolution.
Too bad Google Nexus S won't be the first dual-core handset. Instead, Hummingbird chipset will power the phone (which is fast enough for today's any mobile software).
Also, Nexus S will also come with 16GB of built-in memory, 512MB RAM, 5MP main camera plus a front one and gyroscope, along with an NFC chip.

At the same time, Android 2.3 Gingerbread was also announced. Here are some interesting things:
  • Support for NFC technology;
  • native VoIP;
  • new on-screen keyboard which shows multiple letter/symbol versions on the same screen;
  • improved copy/paste functionality;
  • Google also promises native wireless tethering to maximum of six devices;
  • True multitasking, alternatively, you can hold the home button, and tap on any of the running applications to go where the app is supposed to be at this point.

The keyboard looks iffy for my fat fingers.
Physical keys like my 'berry work better for me.

Looking at its features and the screen clarity etc. makes me excited, but... that commercial was pretty crudd and low budget. lol... they were obviously not walking naturally. Google can do better with all that money they have!!
